Today we celebrate the Earth Day 2016, the international day dedicated to our planet. Its origins? Back in 1970, after a disastrous oil leak, this initiative was launched and every year we celebrate it and today we are celebrating the 46th edition of it. But how much have we done for our planet through time? Too little. According to the WWF, it would be better if we worry and care everyday about the planet we live on. During the last 40 years, we witnessed and helped a 52% decrease of wild fauna.

Trees for the Earth

We can’t really be happy…and today is one of those rare moments in which countries and governments from all over the world are united to save the Planet. For two main reasons: the first one is the amend (symbolic for now…) of the Paris agreement about the climate, COP21. The second is a promise, or better, a challenge: plant from now till 2020 7.8 billion trees, as many as the population on Earth. This year’s theme is Trees for the Earth. How to reach the target? With education! And how to educate? Easy, with social networks! Many hashtags have been launched to facilitate data and news fruition, to motivate us and to make us conscious about what is happening: #Trees4Earth #MobilizeU #ClimateChange #BillionActsofGreen #ED2016 #ClimateForum #ClimateEducationWeek.

Apple & WFF, tech & green

Apple and the WWF launched “Apps for Earth” to raise money and defend our planet. A campaign that started on April 14 and will end on the 24, so that all Apple users (a billion active users around the world) can get closer to environmental causes. Angry Birds 2, Candy Crush Soda Saga, SimCity BuildIt are just some on the 27 apps that decided to participate to the initiative, offering special and limited edition contents. The profit will all be given to the WWF to take care of environmental causes. Many VIPs already decided to be part of this initiative, like Leonardo DiCaprio and Edward Norton and let’s hope that this campaign will have the same success of the one launched by Apple two years ago, when they raised 2 billion dollars to fight AIDS.

“Defend the environment and answer to the challenge of climate changes is not only necessary, but it also represents an opportunity to create jobs and a new economy” …we can’t ignore that the environmental change is strictly linked to the technological progress and to new opportunities that we can find, and the most important is: improve the quality and beauty of our lives.
